EcoTourism Ireland’s main goal is to assist ecotourism enterprises to manage tourism more sustainably and strive to help companies minimize their environmental effects and that the tourism industry recognize and gain from the benefits and cost advantages derived from being green.
Ecotourism Irelands ultimate aim is to protect and enhance the environment, and to improve the well-being of communities in local areas like Ballybunion.
The result of the course Danny achieved a Silver accreditation for the Cliff Walk in Ballybunion being firsts in the region for Ecotourism.
Impact of Tours
After this award walking tours into the natural areas of the Cliff Path were studied and the impacts were noted; the outcome was careful planning of tours into these special areas of nature with the awareness that the environment where the tour operates is a place of ecosystems and built heritage.
The concern about path widening and waste were analyzed with the introduction of a Leave No Trace Policy which is in force “Pack it In Pack It Out” and dispose of rubbish in an environmentally friendly way.
Interpretation of walks
All tours on the Cliff Path Walk have a very strong Interpretation policy from accurate local history and folklore gathered by Danny Houlihan local historian over a 25 year period of research which is related on tour.
All tours into these special areas are 99 percent based in nature and the natural areas of Ballybunion, Bromore Cliffs. and Beal. numbers are managed with minimal groups taken to the Cliffs to enhance visitor experience and preserve nature at all cost.
Ecotrek has adopted all sustainable policy’s from rain water harvesting to the use of re-useable brochures and recognizes the attempt by conservation groups to reduce our carbon footprint by 2050. Ecotrek Ballybunion operates within these pillars and global organization with its Silver Label and continues to safeguard nature.
